Overall, the process is this: you begin by greeting and appreciating the plant, and then you open yourself to receive a message back in return.

Now, select a plant that you would like to work with. Sit yourself in a comfortable position facing the plant, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Feel yourself let go of all thoughts and all tensions and take several more deep, relaxing breaths.

Now, open your eyes and feast them on the plant in front of you. Smile at the plant as you enjoy its beauty. Reach out and touch it. Is it very dusty, take a soft, damp cloth and gently wipe it clean. You might want to turn it, and enjoy it from different angles.

Begin to send verbal messages to the plant, either by speaking aloud or in your thoughts. Introduce yourself to the plant and its deva. Thank the plant for its beauty and energy and for enhancing your environment. Describe its attributes. Tell the plant/deva what it means to you to have this particular plant in your home. Say anything else that occurs to you.

Now, stop talking and listen for a response. Notice if words form in your mind that seem to come from the plant, or if impressions seem to pop into your awareness, like a sudden realization that this plant is very happy. Try this with your eyes open and then with your eyes closed. Don't judge any message that seems to be coming....just make a mental or actual note of it. Try asking questions, like, "Do you like the place you are sitting? Would another place be better?" Wait for a response, which you will either hear intuitively or sense in some other way.

If you get a response, keep the interaction going as long as you like. When you are finished, be sure to thank the Deva for the conversation and say "good-bye", just as you would with any friend.

If you get no sense of response, don't worry. Just try again another time. The plant/deva may have responded, but you didn't pick up on it yet. This attempt is paving a pathway for you; the next time you try, the path will be more familiar and easier to recognize. Also, the deva may not have responded this time. Devas are not used to being acknowledged. You may have caught this one by surprise! Don't give up. Learning to work with the energies of individual plants is incredibly rewarding.
